Starting late in life, I didn’t get into Photography until my early 30s.
I took Photography as a filler class in college, but enjoyed myself in the beginning class. I felt the work I was doing had some merit, and expression. It was simple, and much of it is even here on this portfolio. I’m willing to show it, because it has meaning as part of my journey- quite literally.
Starting in Michigan, where I was born, I took photos of landscapes. I love the forests and the Great Lakes, and they were often a challenging subject. How do you take photos that can stand out against a sea of others? Upper Michigan is a picturesque place, and getting something eye-catching can be terribly stressful, because who hasn’t seen it already?
Eventually, I outgrew my home town, and needed to move west. The trip was incredible, and I got some compelling shots along the way, and learned things with my camera I hadn’t pushed before. On arrival in California, I had a new host of things to photograph.
I am an introvert by nature. I actually do not like having photos of myself presented, displayed, or even staring back at me in a folder. This is why Landscapes and I got along so well. It remains, however, a hobby that forces me to get out into the sun, and the world, and try to capture a moment in time that I can share with others.
Deep down, that has always been my ethos: Share.
I want you to see what I saw, and as close to how I saw it. I want you to be there with me, in that moment. I hope my moments can be yours in this small way.
